Electric Streets 003Streets are normally hard places for a dog to live.  Most idioms suggesting hard life come from dogs on the streets.  The electric streets were different, they were freedom.  Years ago, a dog could live comfortably.  Every dog knew it was better than being a pet.  One could have been happy there, long, long ago...

Electric Streets 002The sun rose up, a new day, a new beginning.  Or, that's what people thought everywhere else in the world.  Everywhere else, people sat up from their beds, breathed in the fresh air around them, stretched and headed off for another grueling day of work.   
In the city, worn people with ends frayed walked out into the smog, not ready to start a new day, wishing for another pot of coffee. Or an eternity in bed.

It's hard to imagine a place worse than hell, but the electric streets was a place, believed by many that exact thing:  a place worse than hell.  The streets held shadows ripe with hunger.  If you didn't watch your step, they'd grab you, pull you in, and never let you go.  Tourism is down in the city.  This last year, it was the lowest it's ever been, and it's declining still.  The mayor paces in his office enough to wear a hole in the carpet, which at one point was lavishing and expensive.  Now, it resembles the people of the city:  worn and threadb The Electric Streets 001
